I feel so immersed though it's top down perspective. To compare really quick with personal relevance, I've been in Diablo 4 for a few days now, and I feel like my character and I are in the world of Sanctuary. But as a good story driven arpg-lite it's good. Still, I would have loved a lot more immersion in the world. Especially consideriing today's gaming climate. Still a great game though and worth the money I spent. I won't lie, due to the promotion of the game before release I basically expected Witcher 3 but in the Harry Potter universe. But expectations are definitely high for any sequels. On the other hand, I think for their first major entry into the RPG world, they did a good job. I liked HL a lot but they did miss some opportunities. These trials could actually have more combat focused things too, considering you'd be fighting conjurations or something like that preparing you for the outside world. And it wouldn't be complete utter bullshit since it would make sense for the teachers to make sure you're on an adequate wizarding level before teaching you certain spells (considering u startef as a 5th year and all that). Since it's a magical world, you'd be able to make these trials quite extensive tbh. Like zelda BOTW where a lot of shrines introduce a mechanic you can use (at the start that is). Make classes like trials where you need to use your wits to get to the end where you THEN learn the actual new spell. There’s plenty of opportunity for expansion and improvement in the coming years, whether that be DLC or a sequel, and if Avalanche fail to deliver on that then feel free to be unhappy.Ĭlasses is probably the best fill to be honest. Reserve criticism for what Avalanche do in the future rather than what they have done so far with Hogwarts Legacy. If you’re not happy with the game then that’s fine, however I would encourage patience. Avalanche were successful in capturing the magic of Hogwarts, and I genuinely felt immersed in a world that’s been a huge part of my life for many years. When you factor all this in though, it could have been much, much worse.Īs both a gamer and a big Potter fan, I feel like this game exceeded my expectations. There has been plenty of fair criticism of HL, that I can’t deny. There haven’t been many hugely anticipated games that have been released over the last couple of years without a hitch, however I feel like we got off pretty lightly with HL. I think it’s fair to say that we largely got that. I wanted it to be an immersive, charming Wizarding World RPG, which wasn’t littered with bugs. When the time was ticking down to the release of Hogwarts Legacy, I was just hoping for one thing. JK Rowling couldn’t include all aspects of the world into seven books, so how could you expect Avalanche to include everything in one game? As I’ve said on a previous post, this is Avalanche’s first attempt at a Wizarding World RPG, so it was never going to be all singing, all dancing. The Wizarding World is exactly that - a world. I’ve only been on Reddit for a few days, but my observation of this sub has led me to believe that a large number of people may have simply expected too much from this game.
